Magic Kit 1 — The Secrets
Here's how the tricks in Marshall Brodien's Amazing Magic Set #1 are done — with the original video tutorials for every trick. Practice in front of a mirror, and remember: it's easy, once you know the secret.
Appearing Wand
Effect: Walk on stage or in front of any audience, throw your hand up, and instantly an 18″ magic wand appears. Use it anytime in your show.
Secret: The wand is made of an innovative material that lets you roll it into a small tube about 1½″ in size so you can hide it in your palm.
Preparation: Put the wand on a table. Open the end nearest you at the seam and start rolling it up, keeping the roll as tight as possible, then secure it with the ring.
Presentation: Keep the rolled-up wand in your pocket with the ring slid toward one end. Reach in, push the ring off, and toss the wand into the air — it instantly springs to full length.
2 Card Monte
Effect: The magician shows two cards, then conceals one. The spectator can never guess which card remains.
Secret: Two special cards are supplied — one has double backs and one has double faces (King of Diamonds and Ace of Spades).
Presentation: Hold the two cards together, partially fanned, with your thumb on top and your first and second fingers beneath, then slide the top card to reveal the impossible.
Ball & Vase
Effect: A small ball is removed from a vase and placed in the magician's pocket. The ball instantly reappears inside the vase — then vanishes entirely.
Sponge Balls
Effect: A sponge ball in the magician's hand disappears and magically reappears in a spectator's hand.
Secret & Preparation: Before the performance, conceal an extra sponge ball in your hand so the reappearance seems impossible.
The Vanisher
Effect: A crayon, pencil, rolled dollar bill, or any small object is placed in the magician's closed hand. The hand opens to show the object has vanished.
Secret: A plastic cylinder called a pull, attached to a length of elastic, is held in the closed hand. When tension on the elastic is released, the pull whisks the object up your sleeve.
Preparation: Pin the vanisher to the inside of your coat so the pull hangs no further than six inches from the bottom of the coat.
Presentation: Show the object to your audience. Secretly grasp the pull, apparently making a closed fist, insert the object, and open your hand to reveal it gone.
Wonder Mouse
Effect: The tiny mouse is shown, a small “motor” is attached, and by magic the mouse begins to run over and around the magician's hands.
Preparation: Press the enclosed piece of wax under the chin of the mouse with one end of the invisible thread; wrap the other end around a button.
Presentation: Put the Wonder Mouse on your palm and move your hands away from your body — the mouse moves about in a lifelike manner. Place it in an empty clear glass and it climbs up and out, back into your hands.
